I’ve previously blogged about the Jerusalem Wine Festival but I haven’t yet had a chance to attend the Tel Aviv Wine Festival which is held at the Tel Aviv Eretz Yisrael Museum, near Tel Aviv University.
Unfortunately, I didn’t bring my camera and my cell phone had one indicator left, so I didn’t want to waste the battery by taking pics.
Tel Aviv’s wine festival differs in two main ways: it features less kosher wine and it doesn’t only feature Israeli wine. I had a very interesting Francis Ford Coppolla Zinfandel, but that’s not why you came here! Rather, let’s talk about Israeli wine.
The Tel Aviv Wine festival was a bit of a disappointment. Galil Mountain Winery had their (amazing value) regular series but didn’t have Yiron or Meron. Golan Heights Winery had wines from the Gamla series. I love these wines but I didn’t both trying them here.
Of course, what does this say about Israeli wine that the disappoint was that wineries brought their great wine for every day? There’s still many – both in Israel and abroad- who don’t know about great value wines from Galil Mountain, Gamla, or Segal Merom Galil!
There are certain wineries that I don’t normally drink from so I found a few wineries really interesting. I discovered Segal’s Rechasim Argaman. This wine is made from the local wine failure of Argaman and yet (perhaps due to some creative blending) it didn’t have the usual characteristic purple and was quite enjoyable.
I also enjoyed drinking Shiloh, and discovering wineries like Domaine Ventura. Domaine Venture is only the second winery to model itself after the French old world style (after Domaine du Castel), but it didn’t reach the excellence that Castel does.
